Mantreśvara · Phaladīpikā
V. Subrahmanya Sastri, English translation, second edition, 1950.
Chapter 2, verse 28: grains and pulses. Mars is retained as dhal, without silently selecting a pulse species; Venus follows this translation’s lablab/cowgram. The nine-graha passage also includes Rahu and Ketu, which are outside ALE’s seven mealtime rulers.

How the food lists are recorded
Each food retains its planetary ruler and its own author, edition, and passage. Different authors and multiple rulers remain separate attestations. The five crop categories are ALE’s organization, not headings used by every historical author.
Source-explicit means that the source names the food or plant. Common spelling and crop names are modernized where noted. Derived culinary form (†) means that ALE adds a food’s dried or culinary form; the source supports its base food or plant, not necessarily that preparation. Raisins explicitly named by an author remain distinct from raisins derived from that author’s vine entry.
Lilly’s pine and palm remain trees, without inferred pine nuts or dates. His flax is left qualified because the uploaded edition notes a possible toadflax identification. French wheat retains its historical name. Agrippa’s ambiguous “pine-apples” is not converted into a modern ingredient. Culpeper’s wild-carrot passage is not used to assign ordinary garden carrots.
Sources are historical correspondences. The planetary ingredient lists beneath countries follow the calculated mealtime ruler; they do not claim that every ingredient is characteristic of each country.
